BIOGRAPHY

Richard Braun (*1949) studied in Köln, Hannover and Paris. Being a laureate of national and international competitions like Jaen (Spain), Casella (Naples) and Seregno (Italy) he started a carrier as a soloist and chamber musician and performed in almost every European country, the United States, Israel, Japan and Korea. Numerous broadcast recordings, television - and CD-productions show a widely spread repertoire with an emphasis on contemporary music. He worked together with great composers like Stockhausen, Messiaen and Kagel but also plays the German classics like Mozart Schubert and Beethoven, often promoting the less known pieces of the great composers.
He performed among others with the Orchester der Beethovenhalle Bonn, Nordwestdeutsche Philharmonie, Folkwang Orchestra Essen, NDR Orchestra Hannover, Pusan Symphony Orchestra and appeared in the festivals Festival Cologne/New York in New York, Tage Neuer Musik Saarbrücken, First Pusan International Festival (Korea),Tage für Neue Musik Hannover, Stockhausen Festival München, Internationales Klavierfestival Ruhr.

As an author he writes about piano music and is coauthor of an important German piano music guide. He initiated numerous concert events with unusual programs and locations and founded and directed since 2001 an international chamber music festival for young artists in Dortmund.

In 1983 Richard Braun became a professor at Musikhochschule (University of Music) in Dortmund and directed the school from 1991-2004. From 2004 until 2017 he was professor at the Musikhochschule Köln and teached there successfully an international class of young pianists.
He has since long time very close relations to Asia, especially to Korea.
From 2009 to 2011 and in 2017 he was guest professor at  ChungAng University, Seoul. Leading Korean universities like Yonsei, Ewha and Seoul National University as well as different music associations invited him to perform or give lectures and masterclasses.
In 2019 he was a faculty member of the Asia International Piano Academy & Festival in Seoul.
He lives in Berlin.
